Applying to UNH

M.S. in Family Studies

Students who wish to apply to the Master of Science (M.S.) in Family Studies have two choices. One is to apply to one of three core areas of study - Child Development, Adolescent Development, and Child Advocacy and Family Policy - for the M.S. degree. The other route to an M.S. degree is to apply to the Marriage and Family Therapy Program.

Students in good academic standing with undergraduate degrees in any related field are encouraged to apply. If a student's undergraduate program does not include an introductory statistics course or the equivalent, successful completion of such a course is required before beginning graduate work. Students seeking admission must submit an application, available at the UNH Graduate School website, as well as recent scores from the Graduate Record Examination General Test unless a waiver has been given by the Family Studies Graduate Committee.  Applicants to the MFT program are required to submit additional admission information, and candidates who are considered for admission will be asked to complete a personal interview.

Applications to the core areas of study are due at the Graduate School by July 1. However, review of core area of study applications will begin on February 15, and only applications received by that date will be considered for department financial aid.

The MFT application is due February 15.

Campus visits and interviews with faculty and current students should be arranged through the Family Studies Department. Contact the graduate coordinator, cjtucker@cisunix.unh.edu
