Family Studies Student Awards

Departmental Student Awards

Student awards are given out at the end of spring semester.

CHHS departmental scholar

The CHHS Departmental Scholar award is given by the School to an outstanding senior in our program, who is elected by faculty.  Our CHHS departmental scholar for CHHS for 2008 is Kim Stevens.

The Dakin Family Scholarship

The Dakin Family Scholarship is awarded to a student who is interested in children's imaginative interactive play. The Dakin Family Scholar for 2008 is Alexandra Connelly.

Noah Feldman Scholarship

Created in 1994 in memory of Noah Feldman, a child who had attended the Child Study and Development Center, the Noah Feldman Scholarship is awarded to one or more students interested in the inclusion of children with special needs in early childhood settings. The criteria for this award include senior status, minimum GPA of 3.0, and experience in the classroom with special needs children.  The 2008 Noah Feldman Scholar is Emilee Minkwitz.

Andrea Van Gilder Award

The Van Gilder Award is given by the department to an outstanding senior based on academic merit and need.  The 2008 Van Gilder award winner is Sarah Worcester.

Rand Stearns Award

The Rand Stearns Award is given by the department to an outstanding student who is interested in child welfare.  The recipient of the 2008 Rand Stearns Award is Allison Godfrey.

CSDC Children's Rights Award

The Children's Rights Award recognizes a graduating senior who has shown extraordinary commitment to the children and families of the Child Study and Development Center over the course of her/his undergraduate program through both internship and employment. The 2008 Children’s Rights Award winner is Jennifer Mongelli.

Senior Merit Award

The Senior Merit Award recognizes scholastic achievement and community spirit. This year's Senor Merit Award winner is Melissa Couture.

Perseverance Award

The Perseverance Award recognizes a graduating senior who has continued to pursue his or her education despite setbacks or adversity. This recipient of the 2008 Perseverance Award is Amanda Prescott.

Outstanding Seniors

The department recognizes one outstanding senior in each undergraduate specializations. The 2008 Outstanding Seniors are:

 

Child Advocacy and Family Policy – Josilyn Gagnon

Family Support – Christina Tilton

Individual and Family Development – Andrea Teixeira

Young Child – Linda Bittner
