Kinesiology

UNH News

Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology

Kinesiology is a dynamic field of study, keeping pace with society's burgeoning passion for physical activity. The mission of the Department of Kinesiology is to generate, transmit, and apply knowledge about the role of physical activity (including exercise, movement, outdoor adventure experiences, and sport) in the advancement of health in society. The department has several teaching, research, and service functions that support this mission, including the preparation of professionals in the five options listed to the left. While options vary in emphasis, each curriculum offers students fundamental knowledge in the following areas: the biological, psychological, and sociocultural foundations and consequences of physical activity; the pedagogy and rehabilitative aspects of physical activity; and the management and marketing of delivery systems in the field. Each option makes extensive use of field experiences and internships that blend theory with practice.
