R.N. Baccalaureate Program
RN-BP Student Policies
- Graduates of recognized nursing programs are eligible for admission to the university.
- Students must complete a minimum of 35 upper division credits in the major and have a minimum of 64 nursing credits posted on their UNH transcript for graduation.
- Nurses who possess a diploma in nursing can challenge the 3 Excelsior exams in nursing. Upon receipt of a score of 50 or above obtained on all 3 exams, 52 credits in nursing will be awarded.
- The non-nursing required course in statistics must be completed prior to enrolling in NURS 645W, Nursing Research.
- Students are required to maintain an active RN license throughout the program. Students must possess a license in the state in which they complete the clinical requirements for the RN courses.
- NURS 645W and NURS 622 are pre-requisites for NURS 606.
- NURS 606 is a pre-requisite for NURS 655/656/656C and NURS 719.
- A minimum grade of C is required in each nursing course. A student may not repeat a nursing course without approval of a “Petition for Variance in Academic Policy” by the Student Affairs Council.
- An RN license, completion of the blood-borne pathogens module on nursing Bb, and the equivalent of one year of practice experience or permission of instructor are required prior to NURS 606.
- Current CPR (at least at the Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer level) certification and immunization status must be on file prior to registering for and continuing in NURS 655/656/656C and NURS 719.
- After matriculation, any course taken outside UNH or UNH-M must submit a course description and prior approval form for signature by the registrar and adviser. Form is not on line; it is found in the registrar’s office. When available, an official transcript must be submitted to the registrar’s office.
- Students are required to maintain continuous enrollment each semester of the academic year until their degree is formally awarded by registering for course credit at UNH or UNH-M or NURS 400, Nursing Continuing Enrollment. Students registering for NURS 400 will pay a continuing enrollment fee. Inactive students will have their degree status discontinued.
- Any exception to the above policies must be addressed by submission of a petition for waiver.
- Current certification in a nationally recognized nursing specialty or case management will be accepted for 4 elective credits upon submission of a copy of their certificate.
- Students may apply for early admission to the Graduate Program in Nursing through the Graduate School provided they have followed normal application procedures as outlined in the University of New Hampshire Graduate Catalog.
- Policies 1-15 for RN-BP students are designed to supplement, but not exclude, the policies and procedures stated in the Department of Nursing Undergraduate Nursing Student Policy and Procedure HandBook and the University of New Hampshire Graduate Catalog.
