EMS: Community Service

Nursing student Bethany Loomis got her Emergency Medical Technician certification at age 16.  The opportunity to continue working in the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) was an important criterion in her college selection process.  Since its founding in 1968, the Durham Ambulance Corps, has provided exemplary emergency ambulance services to the communities of Durham, Lee, Madbury, and the University of New Hampshire.  For Loomis, who wants to become a flight nurse, that family atmosphere of the corps was a perfect fit: “It is really great working with so many people from the local community. A lot of them have been working for EMS for years, and they never hesitate to share their knowledge.” Half of the Durham Ambulance Corps volunteers are UNH students.
